Fear and Loathing in the USA

Social media is sooo weird…

My sister was lamenting the news on public radio, posting on social media...

Initials = FB (:-D)

She is very socially aware, and I think, suffers when hearing about suffering people…

She is a Meyers Briggs ENFJ = extroverted, intuitive feeler, judging…

Hard to live in this current political climate, when you are an intuitive feeler…

I posted that perhaps she should take a break from listening to the news.

One of her friends lambasted me for suggesting that I am hiding my head in the sand…

Kind of cute,
                        kind of annoying…

After all, I am a “Rational” INTP – nobody f—kin’ tells me what to do…

And, of course, I read The Week, weekly (highly recommended), scan the NYT headlines in my email, and regularly listen to NPR...

What I realized is that this person is angry…

Most people who are angry are really afraid…

Living a fear-based existence…

I spoke about this with my beautiful deeply thinking wife, who is also an ENFJ…

She also can suffer when hearing of the suffering of others.

However, she also knows how to let go of suffering…

And, she knows how to take a vacation from the news…

Is she hiding her head in the sand?

Absolutely not!

She understands how to live a healthy, balanced, life…

When you understand, deeply, who you are, you can better know how to act…

Personally, being an introverted rational, I tend to spend my charity dollars on good causes…  less likely to get out there and protest…

Yet, as a rational, I am interested in the best ways to protest:

And, I am prepared if the world goes to sh-t…

I am well trained, as a martial artist, and I am well armed…

I am a sheepdog, and not afraid to die…

But, only to protect others…

I am always ready to act, with the greatest love and compassion…

A 40-year meditation practice helps…

Keeping active helps…

In the end, there are no enemies…

There are only misguided fearful people…

My job is to protect the innocent from the wolves…

But, I don’t think that a complete breakdown of society will happen in my lifetime…

Why?

I am an optimist…

And, I take the 1,000-year view…

Even at the turn of the century, 1900, the average age of death was about 45.

1,000 years ago, we were still at the beginnings of civilization and nation states…

In 1,000 years, no one will know I existed…

I hope no one will remember Drumf…
We will evolve as a species…

I don’t think people will be enamored of the distant past “2010’s” :-D

Evolution accelerates…

We cannot imagine what we will be 1,000 years hence…

But we try…

I trust we will be a far more compassionate and loving society…

With methods to protect ourselves, if needed…

There is strength in love and compassion…

Not idiot compassion…

I believe even 100 years from now we will let go of more and more of our fears…

There will never be perfection…

As an optimist, I believe we will be healthier, in body, emotions, and in healthier connections to each other and the Earth…

In any case, I won’t be around…

Likely not my children either…

I have faith in humanity, I am still a meliorist…

I trust the children to come will live better lives…

Namaste

PS – my sister did post how she does balance her life and takes breaks from the news and activism!
